May 1, 2020 by Melissa Leave a Comment

With cross-platform data sharing becoming a reality in the 21st century, Windows came up with a new application that lets your Windows10 computer coordinate and synchronizes data with an android or iOS device called the YourPhone.exe.

This enables you to share and sync data between multiple devices and your desktop or laptop as long as you have a standard windows ID for all devices.

What is the YourPhone.exe Process in Windows 10

The YourPhone.exe app lets you sync your data between your Windows 10 computer and your mobile phone. By doing so, you will be able to share pictures and videos and send SMS directly from your PC. This app runs continuously in the background and sends notifications to your mobile device on a regular basis.

How to Unlink your Phone from Windows 10

To be able to get the application running, there are a few steps that you will need to follow:

Step 1: The first step requires you to open the Settings app on your desktop or laptop and select the ‘“Phone” button.

Step 2: This next process is what gets things done. You will need to ensure that both your phone and your computer have active internet connections.

After you have clicked on the “phone” button, you should be redirected to another window, which will give you the option to add a new phone number.

Step 3: Once you ask to add a new phone number, the next window will pop up which will ask you for your country code and your phone number.

Once you enter your number, click the send button, and you will receive an SMS on your phone containing a link to the Microsoft App.

Step 4: Now you need to do is click the link given in the SMS and download the Microsoft App. You will also have to install the Microsoft Edge browser.

Finally, you will have to sign in using Edge, and your mobile device will appear in your computer’s phone section.

In case you want to unlink your mobile phone from your computer, you can do that rather easily too.

You need to go to the “phone” section, as shown in step 1, and click the “Manage all devices” button.

This will open up a new window which lists the mobile phones connected to your computer. You can click the “unlink this phone” option to stop it from syncing.

How to Disable YourPhone.exe on Windows 10

Even though YourPhone.exe is a pretty useful application that lets you access and interact with all your devices from your computer, it does run continuously in the background. This can cause discomfort to many users, especially if your computer is low on RAM. The application uses up a considerable amount of your RAM and slows your computer down. This can be stopped by not allowing the application to run in the background. There are a few simple steps to ensure that:

Step 1: You will have to open the Settings window. The easiest way to do this is by pressing the Windows key along with the ‘S’ key.

Once your Settings window is open, search for the “Z” tab and click on it.

It will take you to the window through which you can manage all the application software that is running in the background.

Step 2: Once this window has opened, you will have to find the Your Phone App on the list of applications running in the background on your computer.

Then you need to disable the Your Phone application and restart your computer. This should stop the app from using the excess RAM that it was.

Uninstall YourPhone.exe process

In case you are not happy with just stopping the app from running in the background and want to uninstall it forever, you will need to follow a process using PowerShell:

Step 1: In the first step, you will have to type in the word ‘PowerShell’ in Cortana’s search box and click search.

Once you find the appropriate result, right-click on it and select the ‘Run as Administrator’ button.

Step 2: Then input the following: Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.YourPhone -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage” and press enter.

Once this is done, restart your computer, and YourPhone.exe will have been uninstalled.

An overview of the matter

YourPhone.exe is not a Malware or a virus, but essentially one of the safest Windows Application.

However, there is malware that tries to mimic the YourPhone app and harm your computer.

Whether you decide to use or uninstall this application, it is always a good idea to have anti-virus in place so that no virus can act as a windows app and damage your system.
